Apple Crisp Recipe (Vegan)

Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp gluten free flour, cornstarch or arrowroot powder

For the Crisp Topping:

  • 1 cup almond flour or gluten-free flour
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup coconut sugar or brown sugar replacement (or sweetener of your choice)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup vegan butter or coconut oil (melted)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch or similar-sized baking dish with a little vegan butter or coconut oil.

Step 2: Prepare the Apple Filling

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, sweetener of choice, cinnamon, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  2. Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.

Step 3: Make the Crisp Topping

  1. In a medium bowl, mix the flour, oats, sweetener, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. Add the melted vegan butter or coconut oil and stir until the mixture is crumbly. Fold the nuts in.
  3. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple mixture.

Step 4: Bake

  1. Bake the apple crisp in the preheated oven for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  2. If the topping browns too quickly, cover the dish loosely with foil for the remainder of the baking time.

Step 5: Cool and Serve

  1. Let the apple crisp cool for 5–10 minutes before serving to allow the filling to set slightly.
  2. Serve warm with a scoop of vegan vanilla ice cream or a dollop of coconut whipped cream.
